Kefalonia has a rich cultural heritage and the music plays an important role in the customs and traditions of the island. Locals celebrate their cultural roots organizing events, focusing on traditional Kefalonia music and dances. These events are usually accompanied by local products, including the famous wine robola. From music festivals that take place in Kefalonia, the most popular is the International Music Festival in Argostoli and barcarolle in the picturesque village of Assos. The celebration of Robola wine in Fragata and Valsamata villages, is also accompanied by traditional music. The International Music Festival in Argostoli in late August, hosts concerts by various contemporary Greek artists and other foreign musicians in various parts of the city. The barcarolle is a unique event not to be missed! The landscape in the beautiful small village of Assos is incredible in itself, but when the barcarolle takes place in August, you will feel like you’re somewhere in Venice, while listening to the traditional Ionian serenades.
